VETSAR (Veteran Search and Rescue)
About
VETSAR (Veteran Search and Rescue) is a nonprofit in Cortland whose name spells out its purpose: putting veterans’ skills to work in search and rescue. Nonprofits like this depend on volunteers and community support to train, equip and respond when people go missing. Cortland is the county seat of Cortland County.
Search and rescue is demanding work, requiring training, teamwork and calm under pressure, qualities many veterans bring from military service. In rural Central New York, where wooded terrain and weather can make a search difficult, volunteer teams fill an important need.
