Tioughnioga River

About

The Tioughnioga River is a large river with deep pools, and it makes a fine paddling route in Cortland County. It begins where the East and West Branches join, then flows south through Cortland County and on into Broome County. For paddlers, that adds up to plenty of river to explore.

From its start, the river runs about 34 miles before it meets the Chenango River at Chenango Forks. Along the way the Otselic River, a major tributary, joins it near Whitney Point. The long, deep pools are a big part of the river’s appeal for anyone with a canoe or kayak.
