The Wild Center

About

The Wild Center is a nonprofit natural history center at 45 Museum Drive in Tupper Lake, off Hosley Avenue near the junction of Routes 3 and 30. The campus covers 115 acres of woodland trails and 54,000 square feet of exhibit halls with live animals, including river otters. Outdoor highlights include Wild Walk, a raised series of bridges and platforms above the forest, the Pines Play Area for children, guided canoe trips on the Raquette River and troll sculptures by artist Thomas Dambo.

What to know

  • Wild Walk opened in 2015.
  • The center sells timed-entry tickets online and advises buying ahead for busy days.
  • On weekends, overflow parking is at L.P. Quinn Elementary School, connected to the campus by a quarter-mile path.
  • Members get in free, and children 4 and under are free.
  • The on-site cafe sources part of the menu from local vendors and composts food waste.
