New Hartford Historical Society

About

New Hartford Historical Society preserves the story of New Hartford, a village whose history runs back to 1788, when Jedediah Sanger arrived to set up a grist mill on the Sauquoit Creek. Mills and shops soon followed along the creek, and the village was incorporated in 1870.

The society’s museum tells that story, and the area it covers includes the hamlets of Chadwicks/Willowvale and Washington Mills. Today the village is known for shops, restaurants and churches, with a New England look that its early settlers brought with them. The museum keeps limited hours and closes for winter.
