Mexico Town Historian
About
Mexico Town Historian is the local history office for the town of Mexico in Oswego County. The town has long been called the “Mother of Towns,” and its historian helps keep that story alive for residents and visitors. The office is a resource for local history questions.
The original Town of Mexico, set up by acts in 1792 and 1796, covered an area that would eventually form six separate counties: Onondaga, Cortland, Oneida, Lewis, Jefferson and Oswego. Those six counties today hold 84 separate towns that were once part of the original town.
