Hamilton College
About
Hamilton College was founded by Clinton residents in 1793 as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy and rechartered in 1812 as the third oldest college in New York State. It is named for American statesman Alexander Hamilton and sits in Clinton, a village in Oneida County near Utica.
The college is known for a rigorous open curriculum, a need-blind admission policy and faculty who work closely with students. Students shape their own liberal arts education within a research- and writing-intensive framework, aiming at lives of meaning, purpose and active citizenship.
