Glimmerglass Festival

About

The Glimmerglass Festival is a summer opera and musical theater festival that presents new productions in a setting overlooking Otsego Lake, north of Cooperstown. It has an international reputation and draws performing arts fans to Otsego County each summer.

The evening is built around more than the show. Previews, meet-the-performers sessions, tours and picnic meals on spacious lawns all add to what the festival calls a Night at the Opera, and the lake view makes the intermission part of the experience.

What to Know

  • Both opera and musical theater are on the program.
  • Previews, meet-the-performers sessions and tours add extra ways to take part.
  • Picnic meals on the lawns are part of the tradition.
  • The name Glimmerglass was the nickname James Fenimore Cooper gave Otsego Lake.
  • The festival runs in summer, so plan trips around the season calendar.
