Fort Brewerton/Oliver Stevens Block House Museum
About
Fort Brewerton/Oliver Stevens Block House Museum in Brewerton is a reconstruction of the log block house that belonged to Oliver Stevens, described as the first settler of Oswego County. The rebuilding was completed in 1978, on ground that also holds the remains of a strategic fortification from the French and Indian War.
Inside a replica of a 1789 settlers’ home, the museum displays Native American exhibits, antique tools and artifacts from the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Brewerton sits where Oneida Lake drains into the Oneida River, a spot that made sense for a fort. The Fort Brewerton Historical Society oversees the museum.
