Boldt Castle
About
Boldt Castle is a restored Gilded Age castle on Heart Island in the St. Lawrence River off Alexandria Bay, reachable only by boat. Hotel owner George C. Boldt began building the castle in 1900 for his wife, Louise, and halted construction after her death, leaving the island vacant for 73 years. The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property in 1977 and uses the castle’s net revenue to restore the Heart Island buildings. Admission also covers the grounds and outbuildings, and a separate ticket adds the Boldt Yacht House on Wellesley Island.
