Bear Swamp State Forest
About
Bear Swamp State Forest is a 1,750-acre stretch of public forest near Roseboom, a hamlet in northeastern Otsego County. It’s a mix of natural and planted forest, open to the public as a quiet place for a walk or a winter outing, away from the busier attractions around Cooperstown.
The forest’s centerpiece is the 44-acre Bear Swamp Pond. A short foot trail, about two-tenths of a mile, leads to the pond’s northwest shore, and a network of snowmobile trails crisscrosses the property in winter. The forest is dominated by trees, with both natural and planted species.
