6th Ward Athletic Club

Softball started it all for the 6th Ward Athletic Club, founded in Oneonta in 1959 by 17 people who loved fast-pitch, windmill softball. Over the years it has grown to more than 500 members with a much wider range of interests, though its mission is unchanged.

That mission is to support sport, recreational and educational causes across the Greater Oneonta area, and the club has a reputation for generosity, giving tens of thousands of dollars each year to worthy causes. The club’s headquarters includes a restaurant and bar, so it is also a social gathering place.
