About

The West Monroe Historian is the town’s keeper of local history in West Monroe, on the northern shore of Oneida Lake in Oswego County. The town is the youngest and the second smallest in the county, formed from Constantia in 1839.

It was the original twelfth township of Scriba’s Patent, and patentee George Scriba named it Delft after a city near Rotterdam in South Holland. The town covers about 20,000 acres and is bounded by Parish to the north, Constantia to the east, Oneida Lake to the south and Hastings to the west.
