Vera House Inc.

Vera House Inc. is a nonprofit in Syracuse dedicated to preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence across Central New York. Founded in 1977, it formally merged with the Rape Crisis Center in 2005 and now runs a full range of services for survivors, guided by a mission to prevent, respond to and partner to end violence and other forms of abuse.

Two secure shelter locations provide 24/7 emergency housing, along with advocacy, counseling, legal guidance and children’s services for people in crisis. Prevention work, including youth outreach, healthy relationships training and educational workshops, reaches thousands of people each year. The agency’s approach is trauma-informed and culturally responsive, and it serves survivors of all backgrounds.
