Town of Middlefield
About
The Town of Middlefield runs along the east side of Otsego Lake, the beautiful Glimmerglass of James Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking Tales. The town sits in the Leatherstocking Region of New York and includes much of the village of Cooperstown.
It is a gently hilly area crossed by Cherry Valley Creek and Red Creek, which wind their way toward the Susquehanna River. Its history reaches back to colonial land patents, and Cherry Valley was nearly wiped out in the 1779 Cherry Valley Massacre during the Revolutionary War before settlers returned.
