Redfield Historian
About
The Redfield Historian looks after the story of Redfield, a large, rural town in Oswego County. The town was formed on March 14, 1800, though the area was surveyed and settled before 1795, and by acreage it is the largest township in the county, which is a lot of ground for one historian to cover.
Redfield sat roughly midway along the Military Road, built after the War of 1812 to link Sackets Harbor and Rome, and settlers streamed through in the peaceful years that followed. For a stretch in the 1840s the northern part stood on its own as Greenborough. Visits are by appointment only, and the office does not open on Sundays.
