Orwell Town Historian
About
The Orwell Town Historian looks after the written and photographic record of the town of Orwell, in the eastern part of Oswego County. The collection includes a genealogical file organized by family, along with photographs of Orwell people, locations and businesses that are available for viewing on site.
Records for researchers include photocopies of the Orwell census for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1875, 1892 and 1905, a typed transcription of the 1855 census, and assessment rolls dating back to 1853 that can be viewed but not copied. Two local-history books by former Town Historian Betty Martin are sold at the Orwell Town Hall inside the Cogswell Free Public Library.
