Oneida Public Library
About
Oneida Public Library is dedicated to the enrichment, enlightenment, education and entertainment of the whole community. It provides free, open, easy access to information and diverse materials in multiple formats. The library is in the city of Oneida, in Madison County, and a drive-up window adds convenience for patrons who want to pick up and go.
The library’s roots go back to 1879, when Mrs. S. S. Goodwin invited the leading ladies of Oneida Village society to her home to discuss forming a community library over tea and cakes. The Ladies Circulating Library Association that came out of that meeting became Oneida’s first formal library. Today the library serves about 15,000 residents in its library district and holds some 55,000 books, periodicals and audiovisual items.
