Old Erie Canal State Park

About

Old Erie Canal State Historic Park in Kirkville preserves a 36-mile linear segment of the original Erie Canal’s Long Level section. It runs between Butternut Creek in the town of DeWitt, just east of Syracuse, and the outskirts of Rome.

The Long Level is the famous stretch of the Erie Canal built without locks, and this park lets visitors walk or ride along a piece of that history. For outdoor fans, it is a long, level path for a peaceful afternoon.
