NYS Canalway Water Trail

About

The NYS Canalway Water Trail is a coordinated trail of boat launches, landings and campsites along the 524-mile New York State Canal System. It is aimed at paddlers and boaters who want to explore the historic waterways of upstate New York at water level. Utica is one stop along the Erie Canal’s route through the Mohawk Valley.

The idea is to link the canal’s access points into a trail, so a kayaker, canoeist or boat owner can plan a trip with places to launch, land and camp. Canal towns and locks line the route, which makes for a different kind of outdoor outing than a trail on land.
