New Haven Historian

About

New Haven Historian is the town historian for New Haven, a Lake Ontario town in Oswego County. The historian keeps track of local history, and the town has an interesting story: it was the last town taken from Mexico before Oswego County was organized, formed in 1813.

A strip of lakeshore about half a mile wide, including the mouth of the Salmon River, was part of New Haven at first, then taken away by law in 1836 and annexed to the town of Mexico. It’s a useful contact for anyone researching family or local history in the area.
