Maria Vallese is an illustrator and artist whose work goes by the name Retro Sorrento. A 2010 graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.F.A. in Illustration, she is based in Utica, and she founded Retro Sorrento in 2009 to bring her art, freelance illustration and handmade designs together.
Her color-saturated artwork draws on landscapes, building architecture, interesting places and people, pop culture and a little nostalgia. Notable clients include Saranac Brewery, Annie’s Homegrown, Stowe Cider and Utica Coffee Roasting. She also takes private commissions for murals, building illustrations and event posters.
