Herkimer Diamond Mines
About
Herkimer Diamond Mines is a family attraction where visitors can mine for their own Herkimer Diamonds. These are double-terminated quartz crystals with naturally formed, diamond-like geometric shapes, found only in the Mohawk Valley. The stones are said to take as long as five hundred million years to form.
Visitors can also pan for semiprecious gems, and the site has a Canteen cafe for lunch and the Miner’s Table restaurant. Across the street is the KOA Resort on West Canada Creek, and groups are welcome with group rates available.
