Half-Shire Historical Society
About
Half-Shire Historical Society was founded on November 15, 1972, by six residents of northern Oswego County who wanted an organization that better represented the history of their part of the region. It is based in Richland, in Oswego County, and its work centers on local history.
The name refers to the founding of the county in 1816, when a regional split led to two county seats, one at Oswego and the other at Pulaski. The society’s mission is to preserve, protect and promote the history and genealogy of the twelve towns of northern Oswego County, plus Osceola in Lewis County and Florence in Oneida County.
