Delaware Otsego Audubon Society Sanctuary
About
The Delaware Otsego Audubon Society Sanctuary is a 100-acre nature preserve on a hillside overlooking Oneonta. Marked hiking trails wind through open fields, second-growth forest, old pastures and mowed meadows, and a large wetland can be reached by trail and a short boardwalk, which makes it a rewarding walk in every season.
Wildlife is the draw here, from many bird species to mammals, amphibians, reptiles and native plants. Each fall the property hosts the Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch, known for late-season flights of red-tailed hawks and golden eagles, with a panoramic view of the Susquehanna River valley.
