Pancakes come first at the CNY Maple Festival in Marathon, Cortland County, which kicks off with the annual Pancake Eating Contest in the Marathon High School auditorium. The newly crowned Maple Festival Queen and her court greet the hungry contestants as they eat pancakes to raise funds for not-for-profit organizations.
The contest lasts 15 minutes and is full of fun and good cheer. If you’re not a contestant, you can still join in with the bottomless pancake breakfast. Downtown Marathon hosts the rest of the festival, where you can sample still-warm maple hot off the evaporator and enjoy a carriage ride.
