Centennial Farm Manor

About

Built in the early 1900s as a vacation home for equestrian heirs of a Standard Oil founder and Rockefeller partner, Centennial Farm Manor is a restored country estate in Gilbertsville, in Otsego County. Today it welcomes guests for stays, weddings and events on about 550 acres above the Butternut Valley.

Inside, original wallpaper still lines the hallways and the oak parquet floors are original too. Eighteen French doors, each ten feet tall, frame views across the valley. The estate sits in the foothills of the Catskills, and the owners say they bought it out of a love for architecture, history and horses.

What to Know

  • The estate hosts weddings, family reunions and casual backyard barbecues, from very formal to very relaxed.
  • It also works as a place to stay, so guests can vacation on the grounds of a former Standard Oil heir’s retreat.
  • Besides the Manor House, the property includes a Butler House, Carriage House, Linen House and Farm House.
  • Cooperstown and Oneonta are both just minutes away, and Cooperstown is home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
  • The setting is a peaceful, rural retreat with long views over the Butternut Valley.
