Brookwood Point
About
On the shore of Otsego Lake, Brookwood Point has been an estate since the early 1820s and is now a place the public can roam. The 22-acre property holds meadows, young and old woods, wetlands, shoreline, a creek and a historic cultivated garden, so a single visit crosses several habitats.
The Italianate Renaissance garden is about a century old, and the grounds have long been used for learning, from the seven Townsend children of the early 1900s to SUNY interns and summer adventure-camp kids. Bring a picnic, watch for birds and leave extra time for the wetland trail.
