Brewerton Rear Range Lighthouse

About

The Brewerton Rear Range Lighthouse stands at the extreme western end of Oneida Lake, marking the entrance to the Oneida River. Oneida Lake is the largest body of water located entirely within New York State, and it’s marked by three identical lighthouses, of which this is one.

It works as a pair with the fore light on the Route 11 bridge: a mariner lines up the two lights vertically to stay in the center of the channel and avoid shoals. The towers are still active, but bridges for US-11 and Interstate 81 now block the rear light from the lake.
