Blueberry Hill
About
Dolgeville, in northern Herkimer County, is home to Blueberry Hill, a pick-your-own blueberry farm that does things the slow way. The growers run it without pesticides or herbicides, and they feed the bushes with natural wood chips as the main nutrient additive. Much of the work behind the berries is done by hand.
That approach is a lot more work. Hand weeding is the biggest chore, and it doesn’t always get finished because another job needs attention first. The growers say it’s worth the effort to support sustainable farming, and visitors get to pick berries from bushes raised that way.
