Automotive Lift Institute, Inc.

Garages and repair shops depend on lifts, and the Automotive Lift Institute is the nonprofit industry association built around them, based in Cortland. As the name says, its focus is automotive lifts, the equipment used to raise vehicles off the ground. It works on behalf of an industry rather than serving walk-in shoppers.

Trade associations like this one typically bring member companies together around shared standards, safety practices and education. Cortland is a small city in the hills of Cortland County, home to SUNY Cortland and known as the Crown City.

What to Know

• It’s an association and nonprofit, not a retail shop, so it suits industry contacts more than walk-in customers.
• Lifts raise vehicles for service work, which makes lift safety a concern for every garage and repair shop.
• The Institute is a member of the Cortland Area Chamber of Commerce.
