13thirty Cancer Connect

Adolescents and young adults affected by cancer are the focus of 13thirty Cancer Connect, a nonprofit in Liverpool. The group, which uses the shorthand AYAs for that age range, works to help them live their best lives by building coping skills, self-esteem and friendships with peers who understand what they are going through.

Support runs from diagnosis and treatment through survivorship and, when needed, end-of-life care. The group also teaches self-advocacy and long-term health management, and it works with clinicians, schools and universities to improve care for younger patients. Programs are offered in person and online, built around expressive arts, wellness and social activities.
